Once upon a bedtime, a young princess sat listening to her father the King (literally, our last name is King) as he told her tales of fairy lands, frog princes, and awaiting castles. Laying her head to rest each night she dreamed of her perfectly decorated abode complete with singing animals and a doting Ken doll husband.
Twenty years later she awakes to a screeching alarm clock realizing she is late for her nine to five. Bumper to bumper for an hour each morning is a constant reminder that her fairy land has become concrete, frog princes were traded for thirty minute mani panis, and that awaiting castle is... still awaiting. In this "day and age" even the wolves have given up and started their own door to door business with the unemployeed pigs. Cinderella's castle was foreclosed and autioned off to the Wicked Witch of the West who now owns the Happily Ever After Make Your Life Miserable Factory.
Let's face it, life is not what we read in story books. And now in this "rising" economy even so-so ever after has been pushed to the back burner. We have given up the things we love for what we can make do with.
But why? I know, I know it's all the lack ofs: time, skill, and money right? Well, what if I told you that those things didn't matter.
Remember when you built a spaceship out of the cardboard box your dad threw away? The castle in the forest your bed sheets and a couple of chairs created? Why can't we have that same childlike imagination as adults? No, I'm not saying to live out of boxes and sheets. But, with a little effort we can use our hidden imaginations to turn the old, forgotten, and discarded into small treasures. Who knows what has been stored up inside us through the years waiting to be released!
So... with a little elbow grease, twenty bucks in our pockets, and our inner child let's take back our fantasies, build our own castles, and live the life we princesses deserve!
